Why are electric guitars so much easier to play than acoustics?

I am just beginning to learn to play guitar. At home, I practice on an acoustic (Washburn), but my friends and I often play at school during lunch. Several people keep their guitars at school, and we like to get together and jam for a while. I have noticed, however, that I seem to play much better on an electric than on my acoustic. Why is this? I think I read somewhere about electric guitars having thinner strings, but is that the only reason?

Lawyer says leaks of Rihanna photo and other evidence should be basis for dismissal.

Mark Geragos, the attorney representing Chris Brown in his felony assault case, told reporters outside of a Los Angeles courthouse on Wednesday morning (April 29) that he wants the case dismissed entirely, due to high-level leaks in the investigation.
“Leaks can form the basis for a motion to dismiss the case in regard to outrageous governmental misconduct,” Geragos said, according to E! News.
The “leaks” the lawyer was referring to include the widely circulated police photo of Rihanna that showed the starlet badly bruised and suffering from a number of scratches, according to RadarOnline.com. The site also reported that Geragos will file a motion regarding the photo, as well as “several other incidents of leaks about the case.” When the photo first appeared on TMZ in February, the Los Angeles Police Department announced it would conduct an investigation into the leak, but no findings in the matter have been announced as of press time.
Geragos appeared in court without Brown and, as expected, requested additional discovery time. The attorney claimed that evidence turned over by the LAPD still had not been presented to him, according to OK! magazine. Without much objection from prosecutors, the judge scheduled a new hearing for May 28.
The stipulated date could help speed up a possible plea-deal negation. Brown’s attorney and the L.A. County District Attorney’s office have reportedly been working on striking a deal.
The judge also ruled to release Rihanna’s jewelry on Wednesday. The female singer’s attorney had requested the borrowed items, reportedly worth up to $1.4 million, that she had been wearing on the night of the incident be returned from police custody. Police will take photos of the jewelry and use the images should the evidence be needed in court.

No Doubt ‘Giddy’ About Summer Tour, New Record

‘It was like four adults became four little kids again,’ bassist Tony Kanal says.
By James Montgomery
No Doubt have been off the road for nearly five years now. That’s all about to change.
On Saturday, Gwen and the guys will take the stage at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, then on Sunday, they’ll close out the Bamboozle Festival at the Meadowlands. Both dates will serve as tune-ups for a massive summer tour with Paramore, their first full-scale jaunt since 2004.
So, yes — this is a fairly huge deal. But unlike any of the innumerable reunited bands gearing up to hit the road, No Doubt aren’t looking at their tour as a way to make tons of cash. Rather, they’re using it to kick-start the creative process for a brand-new album, reportedly due in 2010.
“We’re calling it ‘the procrastination tour’ … well, I am, at least. I’m the biggest procrastinator,” Gwen Stefani laughed. “It’s not their fault, it’s my fault, because I had this whole game plan: ‘OK, I’m gonna go on tour with my last record, I’m gonna come home, I’m gonna get pregnant, I’m gonna have a baby, but while I’m pregnant, I’m gonna make the No Doubt record.’ That was, like, the plan, but it all didn’t work.
“Like, we got a lot of hang-out time and we talked and had so much fun together, but we didn’t actually make too much music,” she continued. “Maybe around 4:45 to 5 o’clock we’d actually play the instruments and then we’d all have dinner. There was a lot of eating going on.”
So, in order to break the deadlock, they all decided to hit the road. And from the minute they began lining up summer tour dates, the floodgates opened.
“You know, it all made sense. We were in the studio, trying to write [songs for the new No Doubt record]. Things weren’t coming. Gwen was feeling like she couldn’t find the place where she wanted to start the writing process. I think she always goes through this and I think we, uh, we just need to find ourselves. We just need to get out on the road,” bassist Tony Kanal said. “And the four of us looked at each other and said, ‘It’s time to play,’ and as soon as we said that, the pressure was lifted … we got really excited. It was like four adults became four little kids again. We’re giddy about it.”
The No Doubt/ Paramore tour kicks off May 19 in Fresno, California. But you don’t have to wait that long for your ND fix. We’ll be bringing you more of our chat with the band over the coming days, right here on MTVNews.com.

Newlyweds Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt may have picked the most unfortunate time to head down to Cabo in and shoot the video for Heidi’s new single, “Blackout,” in Mexico — considering the country is battling a swine-flu epidemic.
But leave it to Heidi and Spencer to take a bad situation and make the most of it. “We’re definitely wearing the face masks everywhere we go,” Spencer told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Tuesday. “We’re not playing. I’m not trying to get pig flu! We’re in isolation. We’re in, like, full hiding.”
“We’re not on our honeymoon technically yet. This is a music-video shoot we’re doing this weekend,” Heidi added. “The honeymoon’s coming in a couple weeks.”
The song, which was written by Cathy Dennis (who co-wrote katy Perry’s hit “I Kissed a Girl”) will be featured on Heidi’s still-untitled forthcoming album. “I’ve never had an album,” Heidi told MTV News. “This is my first album. I’ve wanted to do music since I could talk. I used to do plays and singing and voice lessons and practice Britney routines when I was, like, 12. This is the biggest dream of my life.”
Heidi also worked with Dennis on “Look How I’m Doin’,” and she describes the songwriter as a “genius.” “I just love making fun music, like Lil Wayne,” she said. “He’ll do a rock song, and then he’ll do a rap song. I get to choose my own songs. It’s something I love doing. I’m having so much fun doing it, and it’s not too much pressure. It’s more on my own.”

Heidi Montag’s Wedding Gown Was ‘Gorgeous,’ Richie Rich Says

The designer wishes the ‘Hills’ star had going ‘a younger route’ than the dress she wore to marry Spencer Pratt.

Sure Stephanie Pratt may have thought that her new sister-in-law looked “amazing,” but what do real fashion experts think of the Monique Lhullier wedding gown Heidi Montag wore on Saturday?
“Actually, I thought Heidi’s dress was actually really gorgeous,” designer Richie Rich told MTV News. “It’s classy with a bit of a twist. Very Cinderella-like.”
Though Richie thought the choice of Monique Lhullier was “great,” he said he had been hoping that the new Mrs. Pratt would have gone hipper with her look instead of classic. “I wouldn’t have minded if she had gone a younger route, just a little bit, just because of who she is and who her fans are. Almost like a Vivienne Westwood, or the way Gwen Stefani did it. I like the way Gwen mixed in the pinks and the whites — youth-ified it, but it was chic at the same time.”
Richie had no qualms about Heidi’s accessories, which of course, made the look better thanks to the addition of a million dollars’ worth of jewels from Neil Lane. “All the diamonds are great! I love when girls wear millions of dollars’ worth of diamonds. I just hate when they have to return them. That kind of stinks!”
In addition to the diamonds, Richie couldn’t help but love the way that Heidi wore her hair with a tiered veil. “I like that the veil was towards the back and you saw the beautiful blond hair, kind of classy and Hollywoodish,” he said. “It has the vibe that she has, very Laguna Beach.”
Richie described her look as “very chic” and “elegant,” he thought that Spencer could have done himself up more to have a more cohesive look with his bride. “I wish Spencer went more the classic route. I’m not crazy about a long men’s tie for a wedding. I think bowties are so much chicer, and cooler doesn’t have to be super serious. She looked very elegant, and I think that’s more of an elegant way a guy can go.”
Richie may not have had the chance to go to the wedding himself, but he did know exactly what he’d give Speidi as a present. “I would get a smile for Spencer. He’s always so cranky,” he said, laughing. “For Heidi, just a bottle of champagne. I know the girl loves her bubbles like I do, so why not?”
